From Professional Football Player To Entrepreneur
As a kid growing up in London I had big dreams of becoming a football player. I had a burning desire to do whatever it took to get there. Looking back,In my mind I had told myself that I was already going to become a pro and it was just a matter of time.
I had a steely mindset from an early age. I remember telling my school friends that I was going to be become a pro and many were doubting me. I can recall giving two friends of mine a signed IOU for £1000 and telling them they only needed to keep the slip and I would pay them out once I make it. It was bordering on arrogance, but I always saw it as confidence in myself.
At the age of 17 the dream became a reality and I was signed for a record fee at the time of £150,000 from non-league club Walton & Hersham.
At the age of 23 I was playing for Wigan Athletic getting promoted to the premiership as the Championships top scorer, so I had achieved the very highest level on a domestic level of the game.
Looking back at my career, I realised just how fortunate I was to have made it so far. There are so many people out there with dreams and aspiration to become a pro, but so little of them actually make it. I realised that achieving this goal requires more than talent. It's more of a mindset and determination to work at your highest level on a consistent basis, coupled with ability. I had all of these components and this is why I believe I succeeded.
I had a very successful career and along with that came the lifestyle that everyone dreams about, time and money freedom.
always had a mature head on my shoulders when it came to finances and I was mindful that a football player's career is very short so i had to use my money wisely in order to set myself up to continue life after football.
Throughout my career I managed to build a healthy portfolio of properties. I had planned to have a nice income coming from these by the time it came to retiring. Prior to the financial meltdown in 2005, I was pleased with what I had achieved and my retirement plan was taking shape nicely.
2005 was the year that I made it to the premiership and it was that same year that I decided to purchase my dream house for £2.2M in Wilmslow, Cheshire. Just a short period later the recession had halved the value of my house and many of my other properties also had dropped into negative equity.
I tried every possible avenue to rectify the situation, but I ran out of time, I was forced to return the house to the bank. A year later I filed for bankruptcy and had to start again fresh.
Fast forward to 2014 and I found myself at the end of my career with no more income from football and having to throw myself into the business industry with absolutely no experience whatsoever.
Having grown accustomed to the lifestyle as a football player, I craved the same time and money freedom. Small things like having that time to be able to take your children to school and also be there to pick them up is priceless. To have the freedom to do what you want is something I believe is very important because you only get one life.
So it was time to transition into the business world so I started my research by taking advice from people who were already successful. One thing I realised was that success leaves clues.
Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Robert Kiyosaki, Steve Jobs, etc, these were the businessmen that I decided to take my advice from. Technology is so useful in the fact that you dont need to personally meet these people, you can sit back an watch their interviews and seminars from you laptop..
It didn't take me long to find the industry thatI wanted to become a part of. An industry which Bill Gates said "if I had to start all over again I would choose Network Marketing". there was my clue. An industry that has an annual turnover of $178Billion.
I found an interesting statistic, 'Network Marketing' has been responsible for creating more new millionaires than any other industry in the world. I knew from that moment onward that I had found an industry
So I have found the industry capable of providing the lifestyle that I was after, bu I had one more step I needed to find the right vehicle within the industry.
It spent a few trying and testing various companies products and plans, but last year I came across the largest industry in the world in Forex. A $5.3Trillion per day industry connected with the Network Marketing industry, I saw as the most powerful opportunity on the planet, so I took it with both hands and the rest is history!
